Price, Eureka roll over Deer Lodge

DEER LODGE - Chad Price ran for 126 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns as Eureka opened the Class B football season with a 25-8 nonconference victory over Deer Lodge on Friday.

Price dashed 13 and 20 yards for his two scores.

Eureka quarterback Colin Gillard was 7 of 10 passing for 165 yards and one touchdown, 27 yards to Ryan Holder. Gillard threw two interceptions, both to Jake Davenport.

Eureka totaled 335 yards in total offense - 170 rushing and 165 passing.

Andrew Sanders had 3 receptions for 107 yards.

Taylor Vaughn, middle linebacker, 12 tackles, 9 unassisted. He also forced a fumble.

Price had an interception.

Eureka hosts Missoula Loyola next Friday, while Deer Lodge entertains Manhattan.

BIGFORK - Missoula Loyola scored two touchdowns in every quarter but the second in rolling past Bigfork in the Class B season opener for both teams.

Bigfork scored on a 23-yard field goal by Derek Minemyer and Ian Lorane returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown.

Cody Dopps led Bigfork in rushing, 83 yards on 9 attempts, while quarterback Christian Ker was 11 of 17 passing for 77 yards. He threw four interceptions.

"Turnovers killed us," Bigfork coach Todd Emslie said.

"Loyola is a real solid football team. We're young, but there were a lot of positive things out there tonight. They didn't give up, they played hard."

Bigfork continues with nonconference play on Friday, at Conrad.

BROWNING - Daniel Simmons had touchdown runs of 12 and 2 yards and Derek Crittenden ran for two more, 3 and 2 yards, as Whitefish bounced back from a season-opening loss to Havre by blasting Browning.

Simmons finished with 118 yards on 22 carries, and Crittenden had 60 yards on 10 attempts. Tanner Benedict led the WHS ground game with 140 yards on 14 rushes.

WHS quarterback Mac Roche was 5-of-13 passing for 66 yards. He threw one interception.

"We just dominated on the ground," WHS coach Patrick Dryden said.

"It seemed like we had the football the entire game. All three running backs ran hard."

The one negative was Whitefish failed to score on three trips in the red zone. The Bulldogs threw an interception in the end zone, lost a fumble on the 5-yard line, and ran out of downs the other time.

"We left a lot of points out there," Dryden said.

Whitefish continues with nonleague play, hosting Anaconda on Friday.

FRENCHTOWN - For the second straight week, Frenchtown destroyed a Northwestern A foe.

Jonny Dilworth ran for four touchdowns in leading Frenchtown to a lopsided victory over Libby.

Frenchtown last week pounded Polson, 42-0.

Libby, 0-2, hosts Corvallis on Friday. It's the home opener for the Loggers.

CORVALLIS - Polson rebounded from a season-opening loss by clubbing Corvallis in a Class A nonconference matchup.

Polson, 1-1, led 28-0 and 48-0 after the first two quarters.

Jake Skelton and Tim Rausch both ran for two touchdowns while Trae Fouty returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Ian Laimber returned an interception 30 yards for another score.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Paul Donaldson ran for three touchdowns as Hamilton opened its Class A football season with a decisive nonconference victory over Columbia Falls.

"We need to get better," Columbia Falls coach Bill Coleman said.

"We took a step backwards tonight."

Columbia Falls, 1-1, plays at Browning on Friday.
