Mallams, Bulldogs lead golf tourney
Ace for Glacier's Logan Iverson at Whitefish Lake

WHITEFISH - Joel Mallams, on his home course, carded a 1-under 70 to share the first-round lead with Colin Gunstream of Missoula Hellgate at the Whitefish/Kalispell Golf Tournament on Wednesday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
Mallams was one of three Whitefish players to crack the Top 10 and give the Bulldogs a team-best total of 307.
Reed Platke of Whitefish turned in the fourth- best round of the day with a 73, while teammate Zach Maassen shot 81, which ties him for 10th place.
Glacier, 313, is holding down second place in the team battle with Helena Capital third, 317.
Grahm Schmaltz, 71, had the best showing for the Wolfpack, while freshman Logan Iverson is tied for sixth with a 76. Teammate Justin Newton, 81, is tied for 10th.
Iverson had the shot of the day, carding a hole-in-one with a 5-iron on the 140-yard, 16th hole.
Schmaltz had a triple bogey on the short 13th hole.
In girls play, Amanda Roberts of Helena Capital leads individual play with an 88. Tawney Hughes of Sentinel is two shots back and Kiley McConnell of Whitefish is third with a 92.
Missoula Hellgate sits first in the team standings with a 381 score. Glacier and Missoula Big Sky are tied for second, both with 405 totals, and Missoula Sentinel is fourth at 406.
Danielle McCully of Whitefish and Shelby Long and Elsie Satterfield, both of Glacier, all shot 99 and are in a three-way tie for 10th place.
Final-day action shifts today to Big Mountain Golf Club with a 9 a.m start time.
