Road projects proposed in Kalispell, Essex

| September 22, 2009 12:00 AM

The Montana Department of Transportation is planning a repaving project next year on Second Street and Woodland Avenue in Kalispell.

The project will begin at the intersection of Second Street West and Meridian Road and extend 1.3 miles to the east to the intersection of Second Street East and Woodland Avenue, according to a news release from the department.

Street work also is planned on a portion of Woodland Avenue between Second Street East and East Center Street.

Proposed work includes milling the driving lanes, a thin asphalt overlay and a full-width chip-seal.

On Second Street west of Main Street, only a chip seal is proposed, except for the block between Second Avenue West and First Avenue West, which will be milled and repaved.

Upgrades to sidewalk curb ramps at Third, Fourth and Fifth avenues east are proposed.

The public can expect single-lane closures in this area during working hours.

More information about closures will be made available prior to the beginning of construction.

Construction is expected to begin in 2010, depending on availability of funding and completion of design.

Separately, the Montana Department of Transportation is planning a highway improvement project next year between Stanton Creek and Essex on U.S. 2.

Proposed work on the 11.5-mile stretch of highway includes pavement dig-outs, asphalt leveling, a thin asphalt overlay and chip sealing.

Road work is planned between mile marker 169.1 near the Stanton Creek crossing and mile marker 180.6 just past the Flathead River Bridge near Essex.

The public can expect single-lane closures in this area during working hours.

Construction is expected to begin in 2010.
