High School Soccer: Glacier scores early, often to whip Sentinel

Four different Glacier players scored goals as the Wolfpack rolled to a 4-2 Western AA boys soccer victory over Missoula Sentinel on Thursday.
Glacier, 5-2-0 on the season, led 3-1 at the half.
"It was a good outing," Glacier coach Ryan O'Rourke said.
"They played very well offensively, which was nice to see."
Ian Cavigli scored at six minutes, Jake Lockwood at 33, Ron Howell at 36 and Josh Neiman at 42.
Sentinel's goal came in the final 10 minutes of play.
"Howell's was a perfectly played header from a perfectly placed cross," O'Rourke said. "The guys came out early in the first half and got a goal. They kept plugging away."
Glacier is 2-0 versus Sentinel this season, having won the first meeting 1-0.

WHITEFISH - Five goals in the first 20 minutes powered Whitefish to an easy Northern A victory over rival Columbia Falls.
"Offensively we've sputtered a little bit," Whitefish coach O'Brien Byrd said.
"Obviously, things really started clicking today. When you score right away on a team and the goals keep coming, it affects their style of play."
Travis Adams scored three goals, and Jack Steele, Matty McCrone and Joel Bacher each scored twice.
McCrone assisted on three goals.
Whitefish improves to 2-0-1 in league, 4-2-1 overall. Columbia Falls slips to 0-4-0, 0-7-0.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho - Edson Vences scored at 61 minutes to lift Libby to a nonconference victory over Bonners Ferry.
"He (Vences' made a run at the keeper, the keeper had a chance to clear it, but didn't," Libby coach Charlie Webster said of the game-winning shot.
"He cleared the ball to Edson's chest and it ricocheted into the goal. It was all heart (by Vences)."
The victory moves Libby to 6-1 overall.
Bonners Ferry downed Libby last year 3-1.

POLSON - Two late goals in the second half carried Polson to a Northern A soccer win over Bigfork.
"Hard fought," Bigfork coach Keith Koslosky said of the match. "Polson does a real nice job of moving the ball to the midfield, great passing."
Koslosky said Bigfork had chances, "we just didn't capitalize.
"Keenan Evans, defense, Matt Killian, defense, Fabian Zavala, midfield, and John Lyon, midfield, played spectacularly," Koslosky added.
"They did everything we asked of them and more."
Bigfork drops to 2-4-2 overall, 2-3 in league. Polson moves to 2-3-1, 0-2-1.

Anna Jobe and Maddey Frey had a goal apiece and the Glacier defense held an opposing team to one goal or less for the seventh-straight game after a Western AA home victory on Thursday.
Glacier, 4-3, took the lead after Jobe scored off a pass from Sidney Sharaf midway through the first. Later in the half, Frey notched her fifth goal of the season off a penalty and the Wolfpack dealt the Spartans, 3-1-3, their first loss of the season.
"It was a good win for us," Glacier coach Paul Holmgren said. "We got a little sloppy at times but it was an exciting game."
Liana Bates led the defensive effort for Glacier, Holmgren said.
"Our defense has been very strong and Liana has been a big part of that," he said.
Glacier faces Flathead on Thursday at Legends Stadium. The boys play at 5 p.m., the girls at 7.

WHITEFISH - Becca Strellnauer scored off a corner kick by Sam Dittman at 64 minutes to give Whitefish the Northern A victory.
"She got the garbage, came round the back," said Whitefish coach Erin Morrison of the game-winning goal.
"A nice shot into the upper right-hand corner. Becca played really well, so did Sam."
Morrison said Madisen Cross "had a great game," as keeper. She had eight saves in the match.
Whitefish improves to 4-1-2 overall, 3-0-0 in league.

POLSON - Caitlin Charlebois found the net not once, or twice, but three times to push Bigfork to a Northern A victory over the Pirates.
Bigfork had 14 shots on goal to Polson's 12.
Danielle Morris had 12 keeper saves for Bigfork, 1-3 in league, 1-6 overall.
"Caitlin finally got her first goals under her belt this year," Bigfork coach Hauna Trenerry said.
"As a team, they played a real good second half."

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho - Two goals by Anna Valentine and one apiece by Ashley Shaw, her first of the season, and Jaime Gilden carried Libby to a 4-1 nonconference triumph over Bonners Ferry.
Libby moves to 6-0 on the season.
"We played a really good game," Libby coach Matt Warner said.
"The girls had a hard time finishing for the first 33 minutes, but played a great second half, passed the ball well."
Libby also downed Bonners Ferry in their only meeting a year ago.
