West Glacier Elementary School is looking for interested community members and parents to serve on three new planning committees in the school district.

The district will form committees dedicated to academic performance, learning environment and efficiency. The committees will help create the school's five-year plan.

Over the summer, the state Office of Public Instruction unveiled its new five-year plan model, West Glacier Principal Cortni King explained. Under the new model, schools will formulate plans in each of the three categories.

King and Christina Soderberg are the co-chairs of the academic performance committee, which will discuss curriculum, evaluation and assessment, and instruction.

Stephanie Comer is the faculty chair of the learning environment committee, which will discuss school culture, support programs and services, and professional development.

The efficiency committee will cover leadership, organizational structure and resources, and comprehensive and effective planning. Carolyn Wieringa is the committee's faculty chair.

Ideally, the committees will consist of a board member, one or two parents and one or two community members in addition to the faculty representatives, King said. The committees' first informational meetings will take place in mid-October, and King anticipates each group meeting three or four times before winter break.
