Whitefish 'feast' airing on PBS

| April 20, 2010 2:00 AM

The Whitefish episode of “The Endless Feast” began airing this month on Public Broadcasting Service stations nationwide.

In Montana it will be shown at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, May 17.

The production crew was in the Whitefish area last September to film the half-hour TV show produced by Film Garden Entertainment.

“The Endless Feast” production team travels the continent, bringing together local farmers and food artisans, food lovers and star chefs as it explores the connection between the Earth and the food we eat. Each episode introduces a different region and features a feast staged in a stunning outdoor location, from farm fields to vineyards to urban community gardens, celebrating food at the source.

The Montana Office of Tourism invested in the production costs and worked with the Whitefish Convention and Visitor Bureau with on-site coordination.

The episode looked into Whitefish’s local food system, visiting farms, ranches and farmers market, speaking with community members who encourage the use of local foods such as huckleberries and Flathead cherries.

Whitefish chef Andy Blanton of Café Kandahar designed the menu, showcasing ingredients from providers throughout the area including Purple Frog Gardens, Terrapin Farms, Spring Brook Ranch, Blacktail Mountain Ranch, Finn Biscuit Bakery, Bee Line Honey Nutty Butter, Great Northern Brewing Co., Ten Spoons Winery and more.

Blanton collaborated with Chef Tim Good of the Cuisine Machine, Chef David Lewis of Pescado Blanco and Chef Sally Truscheit of the Rising Sun Bistro.

The feast was staged at Whitefish City Beach.
