William C. Smart, 78
William C. Smart, 78, passed away in Kalispell on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, after a nine-month battle with lymphoma. Bill was born in Missoula and moved with his family to Libby when he was 15. After graduating from Libby High School, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Joan Edstrom, and enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Korean War. Bill graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Washington, and worked for the public accounting firm Price Waterhouse as a partner in Seattle, and Anchorage, Alaska, until his retirement in 1989. After retiring, he resided in Tucson, Ariz., and Rollins, where his great-grandfather Redeker settled in 1904 and where he had spent childhood summers. Throughout his life, he was an active volunteer in a variety of community and charitable organizations, serving on numerous boards. Bill was married to Joan for 47 years, until her death in March 1999. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Rozanne Dwyer, who passed away in October 2009, after nine years of loving marriage. Friendly and outgoing, Bill touched many lives and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his four daughters, Terri Ray of Seattle, Lorri Gorman of Pelham Manor, N.Y., Stacy Thorpe of Eagle River, Alaska, and Cami Smart of Pacific, Wash.; four brothers, Royal Smart of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jim Smart of Libby, Doug Smart of LaConner, Wash., and Ted Smart of Lake Oswego, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and three stepchildren. At his request, there will be no services.
