Trooper's crash still unsolved 2 years later
Thursday marked two years since the death of Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Evan Schneider and two other people in a U.S. 2 automobile crash.
Detectives with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office still are looking for answers.
Schneider, 29 at the time, was killed following the Aug. 26, 2009, crash on U.S. 2 near the entrance to Bad Rock Canyon.
He was in pursuit of another vehicle when his marked patrol car collided head-on with a half-ton GMC pickup truck after the truck crossed into the oncoming lane.
Investigators have said it was a speeding, white, midsized car that drifted into the oncoming lane, forcing the pickup truck into the collision with Schneider’s patrol car.
Canyon residents Ginger Wilborn and Roy Moore died after being ejected from the truck.
The sheriff’s office is using the two-year anniversary of the fatal collision to make another plea for information that could identify the driver or locate the white car.
Video captured the crash, but it did not provide a conclusive make and model of the white vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Those with information are asked to call 758-5585.
