Libby rallies by Bigfork
LIBBY — Senior Jackie Mee scored 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter and helped lead Libby to a come-from-behind 44-41 victory over Bigfork in nonconference girls basketball on Tuesday.
With Libby down 41-37 with roughly 48 seconds left, Mee forced a turnover and went on to score five points, including the go-ahead basket, down the stretch for Libby (8-5).
Jaime Gilden followed with 16 points for the Lady Loggers.
“It was a struggle,” said Libby head coach Jim May.
“(Bigfork) forced us into as many turnovers as we’ve had all year. But I liked the way we finished and hopefully we’ll gain some confidence from a win like this.”
Bigfork (11-3) was led by Mallery Knoll’s 10 points while Quinci Paine added nine.
“Bigfork has as good a transition game as I’ve seen in a long time and we kind of took it away from them most of the game. That was one of our goals coming in,” May said.
Bigfork held a slim 29-27 lead heading into the final quarter.
Libby heads to Ronan on Saturday for a Northwestern A contest. Bigfork visits Plains in a District 7B battle on Thursday.
On Saturday, the Valkyries defeated Thompson Falls 65-42 thanks to an impressive offensive showing by Caitlin Charlebois. Charlebois scored a game-high 18 points. Mallery Knoll and Taylor Peck followed with 12 apiece for the Vals.
