Cops outsmart suspect hiding behind tree

After getting a Crimestoppers tip, Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies went to a home on the 1200 block of Marjorie Street looking for a man wanted for warrants Friday morning. The occupants said he wasn’t there, but the deputies followed tracks in the snow to a tree, where they found him hiding. The man, 20, was arrested for bail jumping, criminal contempt and possession of drugs.

A vehicle was reportedly stolen, sometime in the last four days, from a locked garage on the 200 block of El Rancho Road.

A brass bell was reported stolen from outside a house on the North Fork Road.

A woman reported that her ex-husband had torn up the driveway on Jensen Road near Columbia Falls, and was outside screaming about income taxes.

Tools were reported stolen, but with no details, from a residence on the 1000 block of Ashley Drive.

Responding to a report of a fight at a bar on U.S. 2 west of Columbia Falls Thursday night, deputies ended up arresting a man, 26, for disorderly conduct and a warrant from another jurisdiction.

There was a report of 10 to 15 horses being loose on Voerman Road near Whitefish.

A deputy responded to a harassment report involving neighbors fighting over outdoor lights.

Responding to a report of gunshots on Bison Drive near Kalispell, it turned out to be a man firing blanks in his garage.

There were 139 log entries between 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Kalispell police

After getting a report of criminal trespass at a motel on East Idaho Thursday evening, Kalispell Police arrested a man, 21, for obstructing officers and a local warrant.

A car stereo, a radar detector and a backpack were reported stolen from a vehicle on the 700 block of Fifth Avenue East.

A drive shaft dropped from a pickup truck on Main Street near the intersection of Idaho, obstructing traffic for a while.

A traffic stop on Commons Way resulted in the arrest of a woman, 53, for a warrant from another jurisdiction.

There was a report of a man who knocked on the door of a residence on the 100 block of Eighth Avenue West, asking for money just before midnight. Officers later located him and counseled him.

Early Friday, a traffic stop on the 200 block of East Washington Street led to the arrest of a man who is designated a habitual offender.

A traffic stop near Reserve Drive and Stillwater Road led to the arrest of a man on a warrant from another jurisdiction.

There was a report of a purse being stolen from a home, sometime overnight, on the 900 block of Fourth Street West.

There were 90 log entries between 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Columbia Falls police

Columbia Falls Police had a report Friday morning of a theft from a vehicle on First Avenue West North.

There were 21 log entries between 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Whitefish police

Whitefish Police had no significant incidents and 13 log entries between 3:30 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 p.m. Friday.

There was a report of a “small food fire” on a stove at a residence on Creston Road Thursday night, prompting a response from the Creston Fire Department.
