Local golfers in the chase at State Am
A pair of former Glacier High standouts are within a good day of the leader board at the 93rd Montana State Men's Amateur golf tournament at Yellowstone Country Club.
Larry Iverson, a 2009 Glacier grad, carded a 72 on Wednesday's opening day and sits tied for third place.
Grahm Schmaltz, who graduated last spring, shot 74 and is in a five-way tie for eighth.
Mark Mance of Whitefish shot 74 and stands tied with Schmaltz as well.
Charlie Von Arentschildt of Deer Lodge shot a 4-under 68 to take the first-day lead.
Nathan Bailey of Forsyth had the second best opening-round score with a 70.
Three other golfers besides Iverson are tied for third.
Gordon Webb of Malta, who had a hole-in-one on the fifth hole, shot 76.
The tournament continues today.
