WHITEFISH — The fourth time was the charm for the Glacier Twins.

The Twins, behind a solid performance by Trevor Miller on the mound, dropped the visiting Calgary Redbirds 10-6 in the opening game of Saturday’s twinbill.

No results were available from the second game.

It was the first win for the Twins over the Redbirds this season.

“We hadn’t beaten them yet. It was good to come out and finally get them,” said first-year Twins AA head coach Lindsay Fansler.

Miller, a Saturday graduate of Whitefish High School, struck out six, walked six and scattered six hits in 5 1/3 innings work.

“For him to come out and throw the ball well — that was a big sign for us. He’s one of our horses. We needed him to come out and throw well. Trevor did a good job today,” the coach said.

The Twins got off to a bit of a slow start — the Redbirds scored two runs in the first inning after three of the first four Calgary batters singled.

But Miller and the Twins settled down quickly.

The Redbirds went down in order in the second — and Glacier calmly worked its way back into the game.

“Our guys stayed in the game. We played from behind and we scored in every inning but the first,” Fansler said.

The bats came alive for Glacier starting in the second inning. The Twins had two hits and scored a run in that inning, then added another run in the third and took the lead in the fourth on three hits and one Redbird error.

All in all, Glacier racked up 10 hits.

“To put up 10 runs against good pitching ... it’s where it’s at,” the coach said.

“They’re  a good club. The majority of their players are 18. So it was good to come out and put out a good group effort,” he added.

Kyle Yogodzinski led the Twins at the plate. He was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Also hitting doubles were Zach Masson, Kyler Blades, Miller, and Jeremy Nielson.

Defensively, Glacier did a good job as well. The Twins allowed baserunners in every inning but the second, but they only committed one error — and they held Calgary scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

“I thought the defense played pretty well,” Fansler said.

The Twins play host at 1 p.m today to Helena.
