Coker's grand slam gives Loggers a split
HAMILTON — Joe Coker hit a grand slam home run in the third inning and Adam Stapley pitched five strong innings as Libby defeated the Bitterroot Red Sox 5-3 in the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Saturday.
Bitterroot won the second game 2-0.
The grand slam raised Coker’s home run total on the season to seven. His shot traveled 400 feet to left center field.
“That was a good win for us,” Libby coach Kelly Morford said.
“Joe had a big grand slam and Stapley did a good job of throwing the ball as well.”
That was the first loss for the Red Sox (21-4 overall) this season to a Class A team.
Libby outhit the Red Sox in the second game, but just couldn’t push a run across the plate.
“Just didn’t string any hits together,” Morford said.
Dustin Morningstar went 2-for-4 for the Loggers in the nightcap.
Libby (15-15) hosts the Kalispell AA Lakers on Thursday. The doubleheader starts at 5:05 p.m.
