Widespread outage was short-lived

Almost 7,700 Flathead Electric Cooperative members lost power a little before 8 a.m. Tuesday for a little over an hour. According to a Flathead Electric spokeswoman, the exact cause of the outage is unknown, but it did originate in the transformer of the Trumble Creek substation, which feeds the greater North Valley area. Flathead Electric was able to fully restore power to members in 70 minutes.

A man accidentally shot a friend as the two sat in a pickup truck in the Sunnyview Lane area around 3 p.m. Monday. He was apparently playing with a gun when it went off, sending a bullet into the leg of another man nearby, according to a report made to Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies. It is unknown if alcohol was involved in the incident.

Although yelling was reportedly heard near a trailer in a Foster Lane trailer court a little before 9 a.m. Monday, deputies were unable to locate any disturbance in progress.

Pillows were reportedly stolen from a Bando Lane residence around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

A Deer Creek Road resident has been receiving suspicious phone calls.

An animal warden set traps for the stray cat that apparently bit someone in the Mountain Creek Road area around noon Monday. The extent of injuries sustained in the cat attack are unknown at this time.

Deputies were able to detain one of the four pit bulls seen running loose and growling in the Gordon Avenue area around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Deputies are investigating a report of an alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in the Hungry Horse area.

Around 5 a.m. Tuesday following a traffic stop along U.S. 2 East, a man was arrested for DUI.

After finding her cat and a neighbor’s cat dead in a Sixth Avenue East yard Tuesday morning, a woman called Kalispell Police because she felt the deaths were suspicious. Officers could find no evidence of anyone hurting the animals and advised that they be taken to a veterinarian for examination.

Store employees were able to detain a man who allegedly shoplifted from a grocery on U.S. 93 South Monday around 5 p.m.

Although no crime was technically committed, a woman wanted it logged that her general manager screamed at her and upset her Monday morning.

A Liberty Street resident told police her ex-husband has been texting her boyfriend and threatening to kill her parents. The incident was logged for information and officers agreed to respond if the man came over.

At another Liberty Street residence, a man was apparently “causing problems,” according to a neighbor. Arriving, officers determined the dispute was verbal only, and the thumping heard through the walls had been caused by people pounding on the walls. Officers counseled those involved.

The 20 or so skateboarders who were apparently yelling around customers in a West Idaho Street parking lot cleared out around 10 p.m. Monday.

A railroad crossing arm near Third Avenue East North apparently broke when a city sweeper passed beneath it around noon Tuesday.

Officers received 72 calls for service between 3 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Columbia Falls Police found a burned book in town around 9 a.m. Monday.

Whitefish Police did not report any significant incidents between Monday and Tuesday.

A child was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center by Evergreen Ambulance following a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. 2 and Reserve Drive around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
