Whitefish High School Activities Director Jackie Fuller has announced that Chad Ross has been named the school’s new head football coach.

Ross replaces Patrick Dryden, who resigned in January. Dryden led WHS to three Class A football playoff appearances in his four seasons as head coach.

“We are excited to have Chad as a part of our program,” Fuller said in a press release.

“He has been involved in Whitefish High School athletics and activities as coach and volunteer for nine years, and has participated in many Whitefish community activities. The experience and enthusiasm he will bring to our program is contagious and will surely energize the players and fans.”

Full said Ross has developed significant relationships with students and families in the community and “this will undoubtedly translate to success on the football field.”

Dryden’s head coaching record at WHS was 18-20. The Bulldogs finished 1-3 in Northwestern A and 4-4 overall last fall and did not advance to the playoffs.

Dryden cited health, the demands of coaching and an upcoming marriage as his reasons to resign. He was an assistant coach for nine seasons with the Bulldogs before being promoted.
