HAMILTON — Polson turned in a strong final half, but it still wasn’t enough to offset a horrible second quarter by the Pirates.

Polson was held to two points in the second period en route to a 44-40 loss to Sidney in first-round action Thursday at the Class A state girls basketball tournament.

The game was deadlocked at 11 after the first period before Polson’s offensive woes set in.

The Pirates (14-7), however, recovered in the second half by outscoring Sidney 27-22.

Sidney (19-2) was led by Jordan Sullivan’s 15 points. Sullivan, who will play basketball next season for the Lady Griz, also had a game-high nine rebounds.

Polson had three players in double figures — Breanne Kelley with 13 points, Riley Kenney with 11 and Nicole Davey with 10.

Both teams finished with 24 rebounds. Davey had eight boards and Kenney five.

Polson drops into loser-out play today at 2 p.m. versus Havre.

Anaconda defeated Havre in the final first-round game on Thursday, 56-30. Anaconda advances to tonight’s semifinal action at 8 versus Sidney.
