Wildkats stay in; Pirates out
HAMILTON — Columbia Falls used a strong finish to drop Frenchtown 46-41 in loser-out play at the Class A state girls basketball tournament Friday afternoon.
Columbia Falls outscored Frenchtown 14-8 in the fourth quarter to even its state tournament record at 1-1.
Both teams got off to a slow start as Frenchtown led just 4-3 after the first eight minutes of play.
Columbia Falls opened things up with a 17-point second quarter for a 20-17 lead at the half.
Kayla DeWit paced Columbia Falls (15-7) in scoring for the second-straight day, posting a game-high 20 points.
Sister Kelsey DeWit was next with 16 points.
Both sisters had double-doubles as they each had 10 rebounds.
Kayla DeWit totaled 25 points in Thursday’s first-round loss to Billings Central, 64-52.
It was the second meeting of the season for Columbia Falls and Frenchtown. The two schools opened the season on Dec. 5 in Frenchtown with the Wildkats claiming an easy 55-37 victory.
Columbia Falls drops into loser-out play today at 11 a.m. That winner moves on to the consolation final at 6:30 p.m.

Havre 52, Polson 44
HAMILTON — Havre wrestled the lead from Polson in the second quarter en route an eight-point victory in loser-out play.
Polson struggled offensively in the middle two quarters, totaling just 17 points. Havre, on the other hand, had its best offensive showing during that stretch by scoring 32.
Polson’s Nicole Davey led all scorers with 23 points. Riley Kenney added 10.
Cassi Darrah topped Havre with 20 points.
Havre advances to loser-out play today at 9:30 a.m. That winner moves on to the consolation final at 6:30 p.m.
