Young scientists face the judges

More than 200 students from 13 schools competed at the 2010 Flathead County Science Fair on Friday at West Valley School.
Third- through eighth-grade students from Bigfork Elementary and Middle School, Deer Park, Evergreen Junior High, Helena Flats, Lakeside Elementary, Peterson Elementary, Smith Valley, Somers Middle School, Stillwater Christian School, West Valley, Whitefish Christian Academy, Whitefish Middle School and the Flathead Valley Homeschoolers participated in the fair, and nearly 100 judges volunteered their time to judge the entries.
There were so many entries in some categories that participants were randomly split into two or three groups, science fair committee member Laili Komenda said.
A total of 226 students entered the county science fair.
The grand and reserve champions in each category are eligible to compete at the state science fair March 21 and 22 at the University of Montana.
