Bigfork, Eureka players all-state in basketball

Three players from Bigfork and one from Eureka have been named to Class B All-State basketball teams in balloting by coaches.

Named to the boys squad are Eureka’s Ryan Holder, a 6-foot-0 sophomore forward, and Bigfork’s Christian Ker, a 6-3 junior forward.

On the girls team, it’s Bigfork’s Mallery Knoll and Caitlin Charlebois.

Knoll led the Valkyries in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game. Charlebois was next with a 10 point average.

The Bigfork girls (20-6), ranked No. 8, won the District 7B regular-season title, the district tournament and finished second at the Western B divisional tournament.

Knoll scored 19 points for the Valkyries in a 56-49 opening-round loss to Fairfield at state, while Charlebois finished with eight.

Charlebois tallied 15 points and Knoll 14 the following day in a loser-out setback to Columbus at state.

The Bigfork boys (18-5), ranked fifth going into the postseason, finished with a pair of tough losses — 63-60 to Missoula Loyola in the semifinals and 61-60 to Plains in loser-out action at the Western B divisional.

Ker had 12 points versus Plains and 11 against Loyola. For the season he averaged 10.1 points per game, which was fifth best in the district.

The Bigfork boys were District 7B regular-season champions and also

won the District 7B tournament.

Holder had a standout season despite a rough campaign for Eureka (3-17). He led 7B in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game.

There were 24 boys and girls named to the all-state teams.

Also selected from 7B were Trent Thompson (17.4 points per game) of Plains and Karli Cavill (12.2) of Thompson Falls.
