A catchy tune written by a Flathead High School graduate has been chosen as one of five finalists in a Folgers Coffee jingle contest.

Ethan Thompson’s jingle was chosen from 10 semifinalists in the nationwide contest. The public voted online for their favorite top 10 jingle.

Thompson performs the song with Flathead High alumna Jenny Snipstead, now a student at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., and Landon Lee and Dan Coburn, members of Thompson’s Missoula-based band, What Rhymes With Oranges.

“It feels really good,” Thompson said. “That something I wrote could make the top five definitely feels really good.”

Folgers is flying the top five finalists to New York City, where on June 3 they will perform their jingles in front of Kara DioGuardi, a Grammy-nominated songwriter and judge on “American Idol.”

The finalists will be judged on their jingle’s creativity and originality, their musical performance and their stage presence.

The winner will receive $25,000 and might hear their jingle featured in a Folgers commercial.
