| May 11, 2010 2:00 AM

The May senior tour and tea at the Hockaday Museum of Art on Thursday features an exhibit of 99 pieces of new miniatures by noted local artists as well as the official centennial collection of Glacier National Park art.

Free for people 60 and over, the event offers coffee, tea and cookies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a docent-guided gallery tour at 10:30 a.m. Medical Arts Pharmacy and Sykes Pharmacy sponsor the senior tour and tea each month.

Seniors may attend the tour or enjoy the many works of art at their own pace with free admission offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum located at 302 Second Avenue East in Kalispell. The senior tea takes place on the second Thursday of each month with new highlights like May’s small art works.

Gathered for the 9th annual Benefit Auction of Miniatures, these works reflect a large range of styles from artists such as Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, Monte Dolack, Mark Ogle, Marshall Noice, Tara Moore, Jane Latus Emmert, Rusti Warner and many more.

Along with viewing the miniatures, visitors may place bids for the May 14 auction. Proceeds support the Hockaday’s mission “to enrich the cultural life of our community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.”

Another May highlight, “The Art of Preservation: Official Centennial Art of Glacier National Park” exhibit showcases 14 pieces of art chosen by the centennial committee during a contest. A few of the artists featured include Kelly Apgar, Cawdrey, Brett Thuma, Dan Hicks and Bret Bouda and Robert Zavadil.

These works of art feature many favorite vistas and a wide range of formats. It even includes jewelry by Lucia Holt.
