Loggers knock off Pirates in softball

LIBBY - Lexie Hagness hit a 3-run home run with two outs in the fourth inning to break open a tie Northwestern A softball game on Friday as the Libby Loggers (5-3) beat the visiting Polson Pirates, 5-4 in the regular season finale for both teams.

Hageness hadn't been feeling well all day, but she still managed to go 2-for-2 at the plate and had a walk as well, said Libby coach Dean Thompson.

"It was a good game, back and forth, good hitting, some good defense," he said.

The Pirates (6-2) had 11 hits overall and committed no errors.

"We just played good defense. They had some runners on, but we got the outs. That's how we did it," Thompson said.

The Pirates scored two runs in the top of the seventh - and had the bases loaded when the final batter flied out.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Morgan Rowe threw a 1-hitter and Tessa Cowan had a stellar game at the plate and in the field as Columbia Falls finished up regular-season play with a Northwestern A victory over Ronan.

Rowe had two strikeouts on the day and issued just one walk.

"That was a great job by her," Columbia Falls coach Dave Kehr said.

"Tessa was 1-for-1, made some nice plays in the outfield and scored two of our three runs."
