Vikes' Evans wins three golds at state track

LAUREL - Keenan Evans sprinted his way to three state championships and the Bigfork girls ended the season with a trophy on Saturday at the Class B state track meet.

Evans, a senior, won both the 100 (11.32) and 200 (22.68) and joined the winning short relay team alongside Derek Minemyer, Ian Lorang and Travis Knoll. Bigfork finished with 30 points for seventh place. Columbus won with 61, Thompson Falls was second with 58 and Manhatten took third with 50.

Junior Mallery Knoll led the Valkyries to 53 points and a third-place finish. Knoll came away from a long day on the track with five medals, finishing second in both hurdle races, taking sixth in the 100 and running on the second-place long relay team and fifth-place short relay.

Senior Kayla Carlson finished her standout career earning second in both the 3,200 and 800 and running in the long relay as well.

Cut Bank, led by four-event winner Deni Fitzpatrick, won the girls team title with 72 points. Three Forks was second with 62.

Eureka's Chad Price placed fourth in the boys 200, Hunter Price took fourth in the 110 hurdles and the Lions' short relay team finished sixth. Robert Van Hyfte placed sixth in the shot put.

For girls, Eureka's Bailey Malecha earned fourth in the 800 and paced the long relay team to fifth place.
