Perrin cruises to easy victory
PABLO - Flathead sophomore Zach Perrin ran near perfect splits at the Silver Fox Golf Course on Saturday to easily win the Ronan Invitational boys cross country race with a course record time of 15 minutes, 9 seconds.
"You don't see that too often," Flathead coach Paul Jorgensen said. "Fifteen (minutes) or under is pretty remarkable.
"I think the key was he just ran even splits," Jorgensen added.
"That's what you like to see."
Perrin finished 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Adam Peterman of Missoula Hellgate.
As a team, Flathead had a successful day, putting five kids under 17 minutes and finishing in first place, two points ahead of Western AA rival Hellgate.
"We set the goal and when they reached it everybody was pretty happy about that," Jorgensen said.
The Whitefish girls took second place and Flathead was third. Hellgate won the girls title.
Paige Gilchrist of Hellgate was the lone girl to break 18 minutes, posting a winning time of 17:44.
The next action for Flathead is the Helena 7 on 7 meet Oct. 7.
