A 17-year-old Kalispell boy has been charged with felony sex crimes after allegedly having sexual contact with a 4-year-old girl.

Deven Michael Broad was charged with sexual assault and sexual intercourse without consent Wednesday in Flathead District Court.

The charges each carry maximum penalties of 100 years or life in Montana State Prison if Broad is tried as an adult.

Deputy County Attorney Lori Adams requested a transfer hearing be scheduled within 30 days of his arrest. The hearing will determine if the case will be handled in District Court or Youth Court.

The girl’s mother reported the alleged crimes to a child advocacy center in Missoula, which on March 22 forwarded the information to the Kalispell Police Department.

During a March 25 interview with a Kalispell detective, Broad allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with the girl and showing her obscene videos on his cellphone, according to court documents.

He said the contact occurred only once.

Broad is being held in Flathead County Juvenile Detention Center.
