Delores Evelyn Hersman, 96, of Libby, died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Brendan House in Kalispell after an extended illness.

Delores was born March 29, 1915, in Corvallis, the daughter of Clyde and Brenice White. After the death of her father in 1931, she was blessed with a stepfather, Frank Eker. Delores attended Corvallis public schools and graduated from Corvallis High School in 1933.

She married Gerald “Jerry” E. Hersman Feb. 11, 1940, and had lived all of her life in Montana, including Hamilton, Livingston, Libby and Kalispell.

She worked in the family-owned dry cleaning business in Livingston, and later as a sales clerk in the Libby J.C. Penney's store, from which she retired at age 70. She continued working summers with Jerry at the meat market in St. Mary's until age 83.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Libby, the Libby Senior Citizens Center and Eastern Star.

She crocheted beautiful things and sold them at craft shows, including 22 years at Libby's Nordicfest and Kalispell's Majestic Arena Christmas Bazaar where her gentle, quick wit was enjoyed by everyone. She loved her family and enjoyed every opportunity to be with them.

She is survived by her son, Jerry, and Debbie Hersman, of Libby; daughter, Sandra, and Ed Tecca, of Kalispell; grandsons, Todd and Emily Hersman, Bryan and Kelly Hersman of Missoula, and Scott and Nicole Tecca of Helena; as well as four great-granddaughters, Karinda and Hannah Hersman, and Kayla and Erika Tecca; two great-grandsons, Joseph and Samuel Hersman; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; three brothers, Kenneth, Leslie and Gene White; and her sister, Thelma Hughes Reed; grandson, Guy Hersman; granddaughter, Connie Tecca; and great-grandson, Taylor Tecca.

Memorial services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Christ Lutheran Church of Libby.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Brendan House for its loving care, and most especially to Delores's roommate Louella Wahler, for her friendship and the happiness she provided the past two years.

The family suggests memorials to Christ Lutheran Church of Libby at 200 W. Larch St., Libby MT 59923; or the Libby Senior Center 206 E. 2nd St., Libby MT 59923.
