The Scholars Program at Flathead Valley Community College now is accepting applications for its third class that will begin this fall.

The program provides academically capable and motivated students new opportunities to experience academically rigorous cross-disciplinary honors studies.

According to Director Ivan Lorentzen, the program’s mission is to encourage talent and stimulate the imagination of highly able and motivated students as they experience academic inquiry and discovery within a supportive learning community.

Students receive extensive perspectives on topics through seminar-style classes that incorporate two or more disciplines.

Students may seamlessly transfer to either the Davidson Honors College at The University of Montana or the University Honors Program at Montana State University.  The program also assists students in transferring to honors programs at four-year colleges and universities across the nation.

Limited to 20 students, these four-credit classes combine any two of the traditional academic disciplines—humanities, math, social science, fine arts and science.  A team of two instructors teaches these classes during the fall and spring semesters.

Scholars Program students receive full-tuition scholarships, a renewable stipend and a faculty mentor.

They have access to the Scholars Program Center study area, classroom and library. Program graduates receive special designations on their college transcripts and medallions at commencement.
