Flathead County 4-H youths will tackle their spring cleaning ritual at the Loon Lake 4-H camp at Ferndale on Saturday, April 30.

4-H members, their parents and leaders are scheduled to clean up debris at the camp left behind by a logging and fuels mitigation project, Flathead County Extension Agent Karole Sommerfield said.

The cleanup project includes cleaning out the cabins, putting clean mattresses in the cabins for summer campers, washing windows and sprucing up the facility, Sommerfield said.

Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows and gloves, and to “wear clothes that can get dirty,” she said.

A few Montana Job Corps crew members are expected to help clean up the forest debris, operating chain saws or other equipment that the youths can’t use, Sommerfield said.

The cleaning event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A potluck lunch is planned, with burgers provided. Workers need to bring side dishes or desserts.

Any 4-Her who needs a ride to the camp should call the extension office at 758-5553.
