Deloris Mae Dayton, 87

| April 24, 2011 2:00 AM

Deloris Mae Dayton, 87, passed away April 17, 2011, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

Deloris was born Nov. 16, 1923, in Newport, Wash., and entered this world as a twin with her sister Doris. Born to Ole and Odelia Nelson, Deloris was also raised with three brothers, Donald, Dwayne and Delbert, so she was a natural to become an avid outdoors enthusiast, just keeping up with the boys.

From the first day of fishing season until the last day of hunting season, Deloris and her husband, Clark Dayton, could be found fly fishing the Thompson River or chasing the elusive wapiti through the Fishtrap Creek drainage basin. The rainbow trout and big game animals could rest a little easier when Deloris and Clark went to town for supplies.

All-day berry-picking excursions with her sister Doris were also part of the summer fun, as well as large family gatherings on the Thompson River.

Deloris loved her family and always looked forward to the last Saturday in July for the annual family reunion held at her brother Bert's in Newport.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clark; her brother, Dwayne; her sister, Doris; and her nephew, Bob Russell.

She is survived by her brothers, Donald and Delbert Nelson, both of Newport; nieces, Linda Russell and her husband, Richard, of Columbia Falls; Cris Craft of Coeur d’Alene; Colleen Shepherd and her husband, Wade, of Newport; Kathy Scott and her husband, Ron, of Lakewood, Colo.; and nephews, Kerry Poirier and his wife, Lora, of Polson, Jeff Nelson and his wife, Rose, of Newport, Randy Poirier of Priest River, Idaho, and John Nelson and his wife, Ruth, of Newport.

By her request, no public services are planned. Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
