The Whitefish man who used a baseball bat and an electric screwdriver to beat a man he believed was sleeping with his wife received a deferred sentence Thursday in Flathead District Court.

Shane Glass, 30, had been charged with felony assault with a weapon and aggravated burglary after bludgeoning Geneo Skare on Sept. 23, 2010, as the man slept in a camper off U.S. 2 East in Coram.

Under the terms of a plea agreement with the Flathead County Attorney's Office, Glass pleaded guilty to felony criminal endangerment.

District Judge David Ortley issued a three-year deferred sentence for Glass, meaning he will spend no time in prison if he remains law-abiding during the length of the sentence.

Glass also was ordered to pay $4,138 in restitution and a $1,000 fine.

According to court documents, Skare was awakened by Glass beating him with a baseball bat early Sept. 23. Glass allegedly switched to the battery end of an electric screwdriver before eventually fleeing the camper.

Skare told Flathead County Sheriff's deputies that he knew Glass because he had a sexual relationship with the man's wife approximately one month prior.

Skare was transported to North Valley Hospital, where he was treated for various non-life-threatening injuries.

Glass told a deputy investigating the assault that he had gone to Skare's camper because he couldn't sleep and was upset about his wife's alleged infidelity.
