Guide reports possible clue to missing man

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office got a report Sunday from a fishing guide that could be linked to a recent disappearance. A fishing guide reported that one of his clients spotted something in the water with tattered clothes on a stretch of the Flathead River just downstream from Columbia Falls. He reported the incident, thinking it could have been the body of a man who is presumed to have drowned after entering the river from a raft in mid-July. The rafter’s body has yet to be recovered, but there was no confirmation yet whether this sighting was valid.

The sheriff’s office also heard about a bunch of rubber tubes suspiciously floating down the Flathead River with no people on them. But the tubes were apparently just lost or abandoned.

Kayak paddles were reported stolen from the east shore of Hungry Horse Reservoir sometime last week.

There was a complaint from an apartment complex near Ashley Creek regarding a woman who keeps bringing her horse through the apartment complex area.

There was a report of a cell phone being stolen at Foy’s Lake recently.

A woman reported that her dog had been attacked by pit bulls in the Emery Bay area on Hungry Horse Reservoir. The pit bull owners apparently apologized to  her and left the area.

A mailbox got run over by a truck on Harmony Road.

There was a report of a woman breaking into a house on Skyles Lake Lane in the Whitefish area.

 After a woman reported that someone had entered her mother’s unoccupied home next to hers on Youngs Lane at about 11:35 p.m., a man ended up getting arrested for burglary.

At about 2 a.m. Monday, a woman reported that someone had knocked loudly on the door of her home on U.S. 93 South of Whitefish, but no one was around when she investigated.


Kalispell Police got a report Monday morning regarding a suspicious vehicle with all its windows smashed out and all tires flattened while it was parked in the wrong direction near apartments on Fourth Avenue East.

A business owner reported that someone broke into his shop on East Center Street, but it didn’t appear that anything had been taken.

There was a report that a purse and wallet had been stolen at Woodland Park. The items were tampered with but it didn’t appear anything was missing.

There was a report of people tent camping on Flathead Valley Community College land off Grandview Drive. Officers left a note advising that the occupants were trespassing, and there was evidence that a very young baby had been there recently.

Sunday, there was a report of a cell phone being stolen from a car while parked at Kalispell Center Mall.

A bike was stolen from the front porch of a home on Appleway Drive.

There was a report of two men fighting on Third Avenue East.
