Locals win Montana Junior Am
HELENA - Several local youths won their age groups at the Montana Junior Am Championship on Monday at Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena.
Ryggs Johnston of Libby, Ryan Keenan of Bigfork and Teigan Avery of Kalispell all won their age groups.
Johnston shot a 144 to not only run away with his age group, but he also broke the tournament record for 10-12 year-old boys by eight strokes.
Second place Bucky Crippen of Missoula shot a 172.
Keenan shot a 151 to claim first in the 13-14 year-old boys age group by six strokes.
Avery, the 10-13 year old girls group, broke her own tournament record (set last year) by eight strokes. Kalispell's Ryan Porch and Cody Sherrill tied for second among 15-17 year-old boys. Porch wound up with the low round of the tournament with a 67.
Other locals who competed included Tom Mann Cody Sherrill, Michael Lavin, Brandon Meyer, Andy Boyer, Kevin Talcott and Shelby Ballard, all of Kalispell.
Avery, Porch, Arthur Dorn and Reed Platke, both of Whitefish all head to Lethbridge this coming weekend to compete in the Aug. 7-9 Montana-Alberta Junior Ryder Cup at Lethbridge Country Club.
