The American Red Cross recently received a $1,000 donation from a Bigfork church group.

The Blessed John Paul II Council of Catholic Women presented the gift during a recent luncheon at Sykes’ restaurant.

“This presentation is the result of many hours of volunteer work by our members, in concert with our mission statement,” said Donna Danz, president of the women’s group.

“We are pleased and proud to support the efforts of American Red Cross in providing blood services and disaster relief for Northwestern Montana citizens.”

Sandy Carlson of the American Red Cross in Montana accepted the donation.

Members of the Blessed John Paul II Parish sponsor blood drives throughout the year. They also volunteer for disaster relief projects locally and nationally.

In the past year, the Catholic women’s organization has donated to local agencies over $8,500 generated through volunteer efforts.
