Fugitive arrest east of Kalispell
A man wanted in Ohio for armed bank robbery was arrested east of Kalispell Wednesday night after a law enforcement vehicle collided with his car during a chase.
According to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, David Cooper was apprehended at about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Montana 35 and Amdahl Lane shortly after he refused to comply with a traffic stop.
He fled on foot, but a combination of Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals Service personnel were able to catch up to him and place him under arrest, according to a release.
Six patrol vehicles and seven law enforcement officers participated in the arrest, which resulted in minor damage to one county vehicle and significant damage to the vehicle driven by Cooper.
No one was seriously injured during the incident.
Cooper, 28, had warrants out of Ohio for three counts of aggravated armed bank robbery with a deadly weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials learned Cooper was in Kalispell during an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service. He was believed to be working in construction somewhere in the area.
