Luella Iona Schwenke, 90

Luella passed away on Aug. 11, 2011, at the nursing home in Superior. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Luella was born Nov. 30, 1920, to Florence and Andy Dunbar in Whitefish. She attended school in Chester, graduating in 1940.

She married John Chapman in 1941, and married Herb Schwenke in 1961.

Luella was no stranger to hard work. She worked side by side with both husbands in the woods, in the laundry department at Kalispell General Hospital, and washed dishes at the Big Sky Cafe, which is now Durango’s in Superior, for two years.

She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and scrapbooking of places she had been and of family articles in newspapers.

Luella was a loving person, giving of herself to anyone who needed help or just needed a friend. She had many friends in Chester, Kalispell and Superior.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Sam Heimbigner; husbands, John Chapman and Herb Schwenke; sons, Russell Chapman, Ronald Chapman and Rex Chapman; sister, Laura McGillivray; brothers, John Dunbar and Charles Dunbar; and grandson, Randy Mejia.

 Survivors include her son, Roger Chapman, and wife, Ko, of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter, Rosalie Mejia, of Kalispell; sisters Stella Beck and Ruthie Warnken, and brother Delbert Heimbigner, all in Superior; six grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 17, at the Lonepine Cemetery in Bigfork.

 Arrangements are with Livingston, Malletta & Geraghty Funeral Home in Missoula.
