MISSOULA - Glacier's girls followed through with another strong showing while the Glacier boys overcame a five-shot deficit as the Wolfpack captured both team titles in the season-opening Missoula Invitational golf tournament on Wednesday.

The Glacier girls, who led after Tuesday's play at Larchmont by an amazing 21 shots, finished with 736 total (363-373) at Canyon River. Helena High was 22 shots back (384-374-758).

The Glacier boys were nine shots better on the final day, finishing with a team best 611 (310-301). Hamilton, which led after the first day, came in second (305-312-617).

"It was a good day for Glacier golf," Glacier coach Rob Logsdon said.

"First time ever both teams won (at the same invitational). It's the first time the girls have won an invitational. I'm pretty excited for them."

Individually, Glacier had a pair of runners-up. Ryan Porch (72-71-143) finished second to medalist Reed Platke (69-71-140) of Whitefish and Shelby Ballard (86-88-174) place second behind Mari Wolverton (78-78-156) of Missoula Sentinel.

The Glacier girls had two more top 10 finishers in Shea Stevens (91-92-183), who was fifth, and Kaydee Aurich (91-97-188), who was 10th.

Glacier freshman Cody Sherrill (78-73-151) tied with two others for sixth.

"They came back and played pretty well (the second day)," Logsdon said of his girls.

"Consistent play, they have a good attitude about what they need to do this year. It's paying off for them."

Logsdon said Hannah Davis (95-96-191) was a shot or two from breaking into the top 10.

Porch, who opened with a 39 on his first nine Tuesday, tied Platke for the low round on the last day.

"He had 27 really good holes after that (bad nine)," Logsdon said. "It was a good start for Ryan."

Logsdon said Sherrill had an impressive first tournament.

"He was 1-under with five holes left (on Wednesday)," Logsdon said.

"He probably has some normal stress and jitters and staggered in a little bit with two bogeys in the last five holes. That was a learning experience for him. I can't wait to see what he can do when he gets some experience."

Logsdon said the scoring difference for Glacier on the final day was turned in by Kevin Talcott. He shot an 84 on Tuesday, but finished with a 78. That gave Glacier four players under 80.

Flathead had one top 10 performer in Michael Lavin (78-77-155). He tied for 10th.

Erin Tabish of Whitefish finished third (89-867-176).

The Class A Whitefish boys and girls placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in a field dominated by Class AA teams.

Flathead's boys and girls were eighth.

Geneva Zolter (99-111-210) was the top scorer for the FHS girls.

Glacier, Flathead and Whitefish will compete in the Great Falls Invitational on Monday.
