Whitefish residents soon will start receiving phone calls about a concert to benefit a nonprofit that helps students make healthy choices.

Whitefish CARE, a 501(c)3 organization that emphasizes healthy lifestyles for students, will call residents to ask them to purchase tickets to see John Dunnigan in concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Whitefish Middle School auditorium.

Dunnigan is a well-known musician, songwriter and funny man who has played with artists ranging from Bonnie Raitt to Asleep at the Wheel to Bruce Springsteen.

The concert will raise money for CARE, which has lost a considerable amount of funding over the last couple of years.

The program had been funded through the federal Safe and Drug-free Schools Act, but the Obama administration cut that funding source.

That means Whitefish CARE, which provides resources for drug and alcohol prevention programs and runs two mentoring programs in the Whitefish School District, relies heavily on donations, grants and volunteer labor, Director Michelle Kuntz said.

All the money from the concert will go to Whitefish CARE.

Tickets to see Dunnigan are $26 each. For additional information, call Kuntz at 862-8600 extension 447 or email her at kuntzm@wfps.k12.mt.us.
