Unflushed toilet a burglary clue?

The Kalispell Police Department received a report of a suspected burglary at about 9:27 p.m. Thursday. The caller said she came home at 8:30 p.m. and knew that someone was in the house because someone used the toilet and didn’t flush, and the front door latch is broken. The caller didn’t think anything was taken.

Later that evening, a Pomeranian was reunited with its owner, who was warned for having a dog at large. A neighbor had called earlier to report she had the dog contained in her garbage can. The caller said the dog was running loose and vicious.

An officer separated people after a fight was reported near a church between Third and Fourth streets west. The officer reported no one wanted to pursue charges.

At about 4:50 a.m. Friday, an officer responded to a restaurant on East Idaho Street for a report of a woman trying to steal forks and salt and pepper shakers and harassing the staff a little. The woman paid for her meal and returned the property, and the restaurant did not wish to pursue charges.

Later that morning, an officer took a report of graffiti to a fence and a trash can on North Meridian Road.

At about 12:15 p.m., a case worker in the Youth Court Office reported that a person who tested positive for drugs wants to report someone slipped him a marijuana brownie at Depot Park.

Later that afternoon, a woman on the courthouse lawn called to report her purse was just stolen. She found the purse, but the cash and credit cards were gone.

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office cited a man for reckless driving on U.S. 2 West at about 6:21 a.m. Thursday. A caller reported the man driving at high rates of speed and passing on a double yellow line.

Two .22-caliber rifles were reportedly taken from an unlocked vehicle on Montclair Drive.

A parks department employee reported a couple of pit bulls near the park who appeared to have taken someone’s cat and killed it. An animal control officer made contact with a neighbor and will let the dog owners know the dogs need to be kept in, or they will be cited.

Someone reported the theft of a string trimmer taken from a garage on Latigo Lane in Whitefish.

A caller on South View Lane in Kalispell reported that someone drove a back hoe around the property and smashed the glass out of it, broke the mirrors and the lights and possibly trashed the fuel system.

A woman reported a purse stolen out of her unlocked truck on Kila Road.

A caller requested extra patrols on First Avenue North East because the neighbor of a bank-owned property is taking cedar siding off the house and burning it.

An animal control officer answered two questions for a woman on U.S. 2 who wanted advice about a neighbor and problems she has been having with him letting her goats out.

At about 6:10 p.m., a caller driving on South Hilltop Road in Columbia Falls said he was going to pull over another driver who was swerving and going into the ditch. Dispatch advised him not to pull the vehicle over. The caller said he was “going to be a U.S. marshal.”

A man on Olney Loop said his cat pushed the buttons on the phone when dispatch returned an abandoned 911 call from his home. Everything sounded OK; the man said he just needs some money.

A caller reported two girls fighting at the corner of Stag and Bison at about 12:09 a.m. Friday. A deputy confirmed the physical disturbance, but reported it was “high school drama.” One of the girls had left when the deputy arrived, and no one wished to pursue charges.
