GREAT FALLS — Flathead volleyball coach Leon Wilcox

had compliments all the way around for the Bravette team on

Saturday.

It was a productive opening day for the Bravettes

(2-0, 0-0) as they defeated Great Falls High 25-19, 28-26, 23-25,

22-25, 15-7 and Great Falls Russell (25-11, 23-25, 25-17,

25-10.

“Our passing was fantastic and our offense was better

than I would have expected,” Wilcox said of the first match against

Great Falls High.

“But our defensive effort wasn’t consistent enough.

Great Falls was really scrappy. They kept hanging in there

defensively. They definitely pushed us there.

“Still, I was confident we were going to pull it out.

We really stepped up in that last game,” the coach said.

Cassi Krueger led the Flathead offensive effort with

21 kills.

“She was pounding the ball. She had 41 swings with 21

kills — that’s pretty darn good,” the coach said.

“I was really pleased with our performance in serve

receive. We missed too many serves, that’s one area we have to

clean up, but overall I’m really pleased with what their bringing,”

Wilcox said.

The only issue on the day was a second-game letdown

against the Rustlers.

“(The Bravettes) let off the gas and expected them to

give it to us or something. We got way too loosy-goosy and lost

concentration. But they responded in sets three and four and took

care of business,” he said.

Hannah Sackett led the Flathead offense in that match

with 16 kills.

The coach complimented the defensive efforts of

libero Nouf Rashoodi. “She did a great job back there.

“I also think our setters (Emily Russell and Alison

Lunde) did fantastic jobs, both of them. Just their skills, their

hustle... the things they are doing with the ball are dynamite,” he

said.

The coach also complimented the blocking of middle

hitter Timi Severson — 15 on the day.

“Her blocking was very significant. All the stops she

made at the net really helped our defense.”

The Bravettes head to Missoula on Thursday for a

matchup with Hellgate.
