An acquisition of 60 acres by the Foys to Blacktail Trails organization has expanded Herron Park five miles southwest of Kalispell to 220 acres.

The organization announced the Nov. 30 purchase, which is aimed at creating a gateway access at Herron Park with trails eventually leading south to the Blacktail Mountain area.

A total of 100 acres has been transferred to Herron Park, which is managed by Flathead County, expanding and protecting recreational access in the area.

“We couldn’t have done this without help from hundreds of donors, as well as the support of the state’s Recreational Trails Program and other granting organizations,” said Clifford Kipp, chairman of the Foys to Blacktail board of directors. “We thank each and every person who continues to support our efforts to secure access to the land and trails next to Herron Park that people enjoy every day.”

The recent purchases complete the second phase of a multi-phase effort. The organization has a goal of raising about $1.5 million for future land acquisitions that would complete the trail corridor between Herron Park and Blacktail Mountain.
