Sentinel sneaks past Flathead in mat dual

MISSOULA - It couldn't have been more exciting.

Thursday's Flathead-Missoula Sentinel wrestling dual came down to triple overtime in the final match.

Sentinel's Matt Brownlow defeated Flathead's Axel Bladholm 1-0- and the Spartans came away with a 41-39 victory over the Braves.

"There were a lot of exciting matches. It was a fun dual, definitely a fun atmosphere," said Flathead coach Matt Owen.

Flathead got two huge wins from Coty Piasecki (130) and Jacob Egley (152).

Piasecki trailed Brandon Edwards by two points in the third period, but came out on top in a scramble and got the pin.

"It was neck and neck the whole time," Owen said. "Coty got into a good scramble, reacted right and got the pin for us.

"He beat a tough kid," the coach said.

Owen also complimented Egley.

He was down five points to Joey Hiett when they got into a scramble.

"Jacob (made the correct move) and put (Hiett) on his back. He kept wrestling, kept scrapping and got the win.

"That's probably the coolest thing is we never stopped wrestling. They kept clawing their way back into matches."

The Braves are in the Mining City Duals beginning at 11:30 a.m. today.

"We're in a really tough pool, so we are going to have some great duals right off the bat," Owen said.
