Glacier girls lose to CMR in basketball

GREAT FALLS - C.M. Russell jumped out to a 19-8 advantage and held off a charge by Glacier in the third period to post a 52-47 nonconference Class AA girls basketball victory on Friday.

Glacier, down 32-20 at the half, outscored CMR 18-9 in third period to trail by just three with eight minutes to play, 41-38.

But the Rustlers more than matched Glacier's scoring in the final frame to claim the season opener for both teams.

Nicole Heavirland tallied 23 points to lead Glacier offensively. Rachel Chery followed with 10.

Diondra Denton topped CMR with 18 points.

CMR controlled board play, 40-25. Both teams had 27 turnovers.

Glacier is back in action Friday at Whitefish, 6 p.m.
