Girls basketball: Valkyries level Plains

BIGFORK - Melissa VanDerveer scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds as Bigfork rolled to a 51-25 District 7B girls basketball victory over Plains on Saturday.

Bigfork led 21-15 at the half and outscored Plains 30-10 in the second half.

Taylor Peck just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine assists.

Tessa Robertson had a team-high seven blocks to go with eight points.

Bigfork (3-1 overall, 2-0 league) plays a nonconference game at Class A Whitefish on Thursday.

RONAN - Ronan turned in a huge fourth quarter to rally past the visiting Eureka Lions in a nonconference matchup.

The Lions (0-3) had a 33-26 advantage going into the final frame, but were outscored 18-6.

"We just didn't close in the fourth," said Eureka coach R.J. McDole. "We kind of got trapped in a little pressure and got out of our game."

Eureka plays host on Tuesday to the Columbia Falls Wildkats.

Katie Larson paced the Lions with 10 points.

COLUMBIA FALLS - Frenchtown outscored Columbia Falls 33-21 in the second half to claim the Northwestern A conference victory.

Columbia Falls (0-4, 0-1) had 33 turnovers in the contest.

"That's something we need to get better at," Columbia Falls coach Cary Finberg said.

"We need to start playing with some confidence. We were real passive."

Angel Lowry led Frenchtown in scoring with 12 points.

Hope Burlage of Columbia Falls tossed in a game-high 14 points.
