Several local wrestlers still alive at Tri-State
COEUR D'ALENE, IDAHO - They wrestled late into the evening on Friday at the 2011 Tri-State Tournament.
As of press time, the Flathead Braves had one wrestler (Larry Francis - 160) in the semifinals and four still alive in the wrestlebacks. They are Suny Cheff (138), Jacob Egley (152), Coty Piasecki (132) and Bowen Smith (285).
They had scored 22 points.
"Larry is wrestling extremely well. He's pinned everybody so far," Flathead coach Matt Owen said of Francis.
"It's a tough tournament. Some of (the Braves) are taking their knocks. It's good for all of them to come over here and see it. We've got to keep scrapping," he said.
The top five teams as of press time were Tahoma (87.5 points), Lake Stevens (81.0), Post Falls (79.5), Lewiston (78.5) and Mead (77). Polson was 26th with 29 points. The Pirates had no one left in the championship bracket, but had four wrestlers still alive.
The Libby Greenchain was in 22nd place with 32 points, three wrestlers alive in the championship bracket and three in the wrestlebacks.
Libby wrestlers still in the championship bracket are 145-pounder Kyle Leir (who won this tournament a year ago at 140 pounds), Dylan Berget (160) and Austin Bailey (170).
