FHS matmen wallop Hellgate
MISSOULA - It was a long drive for a short dual on Wednesday for the Flathead Brave wrestling team.
Flathead picked up seven forfeits and had three pins as it defeated Missoula Hellgate 60-24.
The teams wrestled just seven matches.
"I wish all the kids could have gotten a match tonight," said Flathead coach Matt Owen.
"I thought we were out there wrestling hard. We gave up a few falls, but they were still in the matches," Owen said.
Connor Hagel was winning his match (at 215) when he got caught and pinned.
"He was looking really good and doing good things. He just ended up in a scramble. That's a match we can turn around," Owen said.
Brock Steller (152) was also in his match until he got caught, he added.
"We definitely went out and wrestled. If we're doing that, we're doing the right thing.
"The great thing is we're going into break on a positive note. We can have a great Christmas break of practices and we'll have a lot to look forward to," the coach said.
The Braves are off now until Jan. 3 when they play host to Glacier in the crosstown dual.
