Construction on an addition to Marion School should start in April, according to a tentative timeline.

“We’re very excited to get it going and have it ready for next year,” Principal Justin Barnes said of the 4,500-square-foot addition.

Architects Design Group has drawn up construction plans.

The school board will take a vote to approve final construction plans by Feb. 8, Barnes said. By the end of February, the school will start the construction bidding process.

“By April 9, we should have a contractor on site” to begin excavation work, Barnes said. He estimated that excavation would take six weeks before building starts.

Construction is estimated to be completed in August.

The school addition was made possible when voters by a 221-190 margin approved a $500,000 bond request this month.

A previous $2.2 million bond request failed to pass last year.
