Lake City slips past Glacier girls

Lake City used a late push to slip by Glacier for a 48-44 nonconference victory Thursday night in girls basketball play at Glacier High School.

Lake City (5-4 overall) outscored the Wolfpack 17-12 in the fourth quarter.

Cassidy Hashley, a 6-foot-1 sophomore post for Glacier, turned in varsity career highs of 25 points and 16 rebounds (eight offensive and eight defensive).

"That was huge," Glacier coach Kris Salonen said of Hashley's effort on the glass.

"Tonight, that's where she got some clean-up points."

Glacier held a 32-31 lead going into the final period.

"We turned the ball over a couple times at the end, gave them the opportunity to go ahead," Salonen said.

Nicole Heavirland added 10 points for Glacier (2-2)

Lake City, from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, was led by Jansen Butler, 17 points, Hailey Jackson, 14.

Glacier's next contest is Jan. 5 at Missoula Big Sky.

Melissa VanDerveer scored 17 points and Taylor Peck 10 as Class B Bigfork defeated Class A Whitefish.

Bigfork held a 26-7 advantage at the half.

Brooke Silliker tossed in a season-high 16 points for Whitefish (0-5). Silliker scored 13 points in the second half.

Whitefish is back on the court Jan. 5 at Eureka.

Bigfork's next action is Jan. 3 at St. Ignatius.

PLAINS - Eureka pulled away from Plains in the third period for the District 7B victory.

Eureka (1-4, 1-1) tallied 15 points in the third quarter for a 22-14 edge.

"It felt good," Eureka coach R.J. McDole said of the victory.

"We just slowed our offense down and worked it around. We made good post entries and started making some layups."

Cassidy Morgan keyed the third-quarter run with seven points. She led all scorers with 13.

Eureka's next action is Jan. 5 at home with Whitefish.

COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho - Coeur d'Alene took advantage of a slow-starting Flathead five to roll to an easy nonconference victory.

Coeur d'Alene (8-2) held a commanding 35-6 lead at the half.

Flathead (3-2) never broke double-digit scoring in any period and had its three game winning streak snapped.
