Luella B. Scott, 94
Luella B. Scott was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Fielding, Mont., the fourth daughter of Samuel and Anna Rickard. When she was a young child, she lived near Essex and attended school there. She attended schools in the Flathead Valley.
On Nov. 17, 1934, she married Gary Scott in Kalispell. They had one son, and three babies that were stillborn. Her husband worked for the Great Northern Railway. They lived in Kalispell and later Whitefish. She moved to Superior, Wis., in 1963 when her husband was transferred. They moved back to Kalispell in 1974 after he retired from the railroad. After he died in 1998, Luella moved to Kansas to be near her son and grandchildren. She moved back to her home town of Kalispell in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; four sisters; her husband in 1998; and her son in 2008.
She worked at the Canteen in Whitefish serving the servicemen lunches when the train came through carrying the troops during World War II. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, packed cherries in the Kalispell warehouse, worked at Whitefish Hospital, and was a 50-year member of Eastern Star O.E.S. of Whitefish and active in the Episcopalian church in Whitefish. She helped her husband teach square dance and round dancing for over 30 years in various places in the Flathead Valley, in Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota and Canada. Besides teaching, they were also guest callers at various places in those areas.
She loved to read, crochet, put together puzzles, fish, camp and hike.
She walked a lot and loved to play bingo. She loved to play cards and games of any kind. She especially enjoyed playing in the casinos, especially on the big boats in the Mississippi River while she was in Kansas.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Karin Weiss, Gary Scott and Brian Scott; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; a special niece, Lois Randall, of Kalispell; and various other nieces and nephews of Montana, Colorado and Texas.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no services at her request. Private burial will be at Glacier Memorial Gardens at a later date.
