One resident dies in Whitefish fire
A fire at a Whitefish apartment complex left one woman dead on Christmas Eve.
Details were sketchy Saturday night, and the fire occurred too late to be included in the Christmas edition of the print Daily Inter Lake.
According to Whitefish Fire Captain Justin Woods, firefighters responded to a report of an automatic fire alarm at Mountain View Manor sometime around 7:30 p.m. Upon arrival, residents leaving the building said there was smoke coming out from under the door of one of the apartments.
When firefighters entered the unit, they found that the sprinklers had put the fire out, but that the resident had already died.
Authorities did not release the identify of the victim or confirm the exact circumstances of the death.
"At this time, fire ground operations are done and we're transitioning to investigation mode," Woods said. "We have no idea of a cause."
No one else was injured in the blaze and residents were temporarily moved to Calvary Chapel where they were being taken care of by American Red Cross personnel.
