Ruth Lowell, 93

| February 9, 2011 2:00 AM

Ruth Lowell died peacefully with her daughter Marsha at her side, following a short stay at Brendan House in Kalispell, Feb. 6, 2011. She would have been 94 on March 7th.

During her wonderful life she was known by her family and many friends as a woman of great humor with a consistently positive view of life.

In the years prior to retirement she worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and, for several years, as office manager for Drs. George Gould and Jerome Wildgen.

When she and Buck retired they spent many years in the desert in Arizona, returning each year to enjoy the magnificent Flathead summers.

Those who knew Ruth saw her as a woman who loved to cook, took great pride in her home and family, and always loved a great laugh. She cherished the times she spent fishing and hunting big game and birds alongside her buddy and husband, Buck.

Born in 1917 on the prairie outside Choteau, she grew up with eight siblings. We've agreed to keep secret her love of hunting the family chickens with her slingshot. She met Buck Lowell at a baseball game in Great Falls, married him, and the two celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July of 2005. Buck preceded her in death in December of that year.

Ruth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Wally Jacobson, of Kalispell; son, Dick Lowell and his partner Ken Devin, of California; grandson, Todd and wife Sharon Luloff, of Roberts, Mont., and their children, Nicole and Wyatt; granddaughter, Holly and husband Bob Campbell, of Nebraska; stepgrandson, Jeff and wife Meira Jacobson, and their children, Cy and Noa, of Tennessee; and stepgrandson, Todd Jacobson, of Alaska.

At Ruth's request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Home Options Hospice at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.
